Nestled in the heart of the stunning Peak District, this hotel enjoys beautiful views over Monsal Dale valley, and hearty, seasonal food. Guests can enjoy a drink and a hearty meal in the former stable and award winning restaurant, or relax in its lounge, all of which have open fires blazing in the cold winter months. Tranquil views over Monsal Dale and Longstone Edge feature in some of the rooms at the Monsal Head Hotel. Every light and airy room provides private bathrooms, along with a full hospitality tray, tea and coffee, and a TV. Free parking is available, and the historic beauty of Chatsworth House and its estate are located approximately 5 miles away, while pretty Bakewell town is 3 miles from the hotel. Scenic walks can be enjoyed through the surrounding countryside, with the Headstone Viaduct which now forms part of the famous Monsal Trail, just 250 yards from the hotel's front door. Full Derbyshire breakfasts are served every morning in the Longstone Restaurant made with fresh, local ingredients from nearby award-winning butchers. The restaurant has a daily specials menu, as well as a seasonally changing à la carte menu. The Stables Bar serves a variety of real ales in a relaxed, rustic environment, while the Ashford Lounge offers comfortable seating, books and games to relax with.

A very nice place to stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful, room was clean, fresh and modern. The location was perfect, right at Monsal Head. We stayed in the depths of winter but can imagine the adjacent area outside would be busier with tourists if you stayed in the summer months. Breakfast was excellent and we also had dinner in the evening too, which was also top notch. Real easy access to the Monsal Trail and overall a really good place and we recommend it
Can't really fault much to be honest. The security light in the bedroom was annoying, as it glowed green at night, so take an eye mask if this kind of thing irritates you and disrupts your sleep. The TV would also benefit from being wall mounted, rather than on a cabinet at the bottom of the bed, so you can see it better. However these are very minor issues and didn't spoil our stay

Great location, in need of some tlc! The staff and food are amazing! Why more people were not eating there is surprising as the food is excellent. The staff were all really friendly and accommodating and great with our dog. The bed was really comfortable and the bedding really fresh and crisp. What let it down is the room's bathroom (7) needed a serious upgrade and from reading reviews this has been commented on for at least 10 years! The shower was a dribble, there is a rusting old heater in the bathroom plus there is no proper heating in the room. For the price we paid I hoped for better. Otherwise we had a great stay.

Great location, lovely food and beer, we both enjoyed our dinner, which was delicious. The staff were all polite and helpful.
Having previously stayed in room 1 with the balcony view of Monsal Head and antique furnishings, the room we stayed in this time, 5 was perfectly comfortable, a good size but lacked character and did not have the views also bizarrely no modesty glass in bathroom so blind required to be pulled down in order to use loo or shower! Also shame that the brasserie in the stable block was closed as this had previously a much nicer ambience than the current restaurant, which lacked any real ambience.

We loved the location, the dog friendliness, the breakfast was amazing and the staff lovely! ?
The decor is outdated and the atmosphere lacking due to simple lighting levels. None of the many fires were lit at any point and given that it was a rainy New Year’s Eve we were slightly disappointed. Having said that had the fires been lit, the big overhead lights turned off and replaced by warm lamps and a few candles we would have chosen to stay at The Monsal Head Hotel for the whole evening. The food and service are wonderful just sadly let down by the outdated decor and lack of festive feel

Good size room and ensuite with wonderful valley views. Excellent spot to depart from for walkers. Really delicious beef and ale pie and a fabulous rissoto, well done to the chef. Generous breakfast cooked by Will who is true hospitality professional as he also provided a warm welcome at check-in and served us in the lovely historic bar.
For tall people a larger (longer) bed would have been good, understanding that double beds are common in the UK.

The food was great, the staff were lovely and it was a good location.
Worst was the smell through reception and up the stairs. The breakfast room was nicely decorated, clean and bright, but spoiled a bit by the stacks of towels and cleaning materials in the corner ‘bar’ area. We were a bit out off by the outside of the property as it looks rather tired

The welcome from Romia, and Glenn and chats. Just what I needed ! Very friendly atmosphere in bar, after meeting the staff they made me feel ok about eating alone in the bar (evening meals). I was going to just eat a snack in my room. Very clean rooms, and the wonderful staff. I will be back !
Nothing, perfect for me at this time.

A very good breakfast menu which we made the most of! We've stayed there before so booked on that basis as we knew the location was superb. Our room gave us the best view available out over the valley. A spacious, comfortable room. All the staff were friendly and approachable and made us feel valued.

The Hotel and it's Staff were an absolute joy. Perfectly located for the Monsal Trail. We were given great directions by the Staff how to get from A 2 B. Our room was spotless and warm. The breakfast on Sunday morning with pots of tea, 1st class. We will visit and stay again.

This hotel has amazing views and is close to the Monsal trail and Bakewell. We were there during Storm Babet and the staff were wonderful despite the atrocious weather.
Rooms at front have breathtaking views but need more soundproofing.

The fantastic view across the valley. Sunsets were magnificent and people would travel to see them.
The food could have been better quality for the price. WiFi needs addressing as non existent in room

Location. Decor suited property age.
It was so hot in the room. I do understand that this is down to personal preference.

Wasn’t a big thing but would have liked a quick drink at the bar which seemed to close early.
